Mentoring, at its core, guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on young people in a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations. Ultimately, mentoring connects a young person to personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunity. Yet one in three young people will grow up without this critical asset. We are assisting several mentoring programs in the area to ensure they succeed.
Dr. Charles R. Drew Blood Drive
Blood Drive – Every year the Brothers of YT donate not only their sweat but their blood to the New York Blood Center in the Mid-Hudson Valley Region.
Prostate Cancer Awareness
Although prostate cancer is common, it is not often discussed. Many men are hesitant about screening for prostate cancer or are unsure of what they need to know related to detecting cancer and talking with their health care team about screening. Similarly, there may be issues related to the treatment of prostate cancer that can be difficult to discuss. For instance, the side effects of prostate cancer treatment may include erectile dysfunction, incontinence and other side effects that affect a man’s identity and self-esteem.
Moreover, one in seven men will become diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetimes. Prostate health affects all men and their loved ones.
March 12th of each year chapters conduct an appropriate service to recall the memory of those members who have entered into Omega Chapter.
2020 Census, Voter Registration, Education & Mobilization
Purpose of the Census-
The census is required by the Constitution, which has called for an "actual enumeration" once a decade since 1790. The 2020 population numbers will shape how political power and federal tax dollars are shared in the U.S over the next 10 years.
The results of the 2020 census will determine the number of seats for each state in the House of Representatives, which mirrors the number of delegates for each state in the Electoral College, for elections in 2022 to 2030.
The Achievement Week is observed each November and is designed to recognize those individuals in our community who have contributed to community uplift. A High School Essay Contest is to be held in conjunction with Achievement Week.
